Anthropic submitted regulatory papers on Monday to sell shares to the public for the first time. The San Francisco company intends to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT. If it closes at the top of its target range, the raise would reach $100 billion US.

The potential raise exceeds the record set by SpaceX, which raised $86 billion US in its June 2026 initial public offering. A successful debut would also place Anthropic ahead of rival OpenAI in the queue for a public listing. The final offering price and valuation have not yet been determined.

The 335-page filing details the financial trajectory of the five-year-old startup. Anthropic reported a net loss of $80.7 billion US for the first half of 2026. That figure represents a sharp increase from the $13 billion US loss recorded in the same period one year prior. Revenue growth remains rapid despite the widening gap between income and expenses.

Private investors valued the company at $965 billion US earlier this year. Reports indicate that valuation could rise to $1.5 trillion or $2 trillion in the new offering. At $1.5 trillion US, Anthropic would join Tesla among the most valuable public companies in the world. The capital raised is expected to fund an accelerated expansion of the company's infrastructure and services.

The filing puts a spotlight on CEO Dario Amodei and his sister, Daniela Amodei, who co-founded the firm. The public offering could add billions of dollars to their personal wealth. Dario Amodei recently published an essay urging a slowdown in the development of advanced AI models, warning that the technology could pose an existential threat to humanity.

The company plans a Wall Street debut next month. The IPO will mark the first time investors can buy shares in the creator of the Claude chatbot directly. The filing establishes the legal framework for the sale, though the exact number of shares and the final price per share will be set closer to the listing date.
