Oswego volleyball defeated Glenbard East 25-23, 25-7 on Thursday to claim its fourth consecutive Class 4A regional championship. The Panthers, who finished the regular season with a 24-9 record, advanced to the Glenbard West Sectional where they will face host Glenbard West on Tuesday. Glenbard East, which fell to a 13-23 record, was eliminated in the regional final.

The victory marked the fourth straight regional title for head coach Gary Mosley, who is in his fourth year leading the program. Mosley credited his players' ability to compete at a high level for the sustained success. He stated that watching the team execute their preparation was the most exciting part of the season. Mosley noted that this specific championship felt as special as the previous three wins.

Junior Sara Gilio was the primary offensive threat for Oswego. She recorded 11 kills on .625 hitting efficiency, along with eight digs and four aces. Three of her aces were served consecutively. Gilio had previously posted 19 kills in the semifinal victory over Oswego East on Tuesday. Her performance continued a partnership with senior Hannah Herrick that dates back to their youth days at Digtown Volleyball Academy and Traughber Junior High.

Herrick, who is committed to play for Dayton, contributed eight kills, five digs, two aces, and a block. Coach Mosley emphasized that Herrick's value extended beyond the statistical category. He described her as essential to the program's identity and said she meant the world to him personally. The two players operated as a one-two punch that Glenbard East coach Bradley Cardott identified as the main challenge. Cardott said the Rams attempted to stack their defense to get hands on both hitters but struggled to contain their combined offensive firepower.

Oswego established a 7-2 lead in the opening set. The margin expanded to 18-13 before Glenbard East closed the gap to 23-22. Oswego won two of the next three rallies to take the set. Mosley observed that his players appeared frustrated during the subsequent huddle. He told them to smile because they had just won a set in a regional final. Gilio said the team knew they were the better side and felt the set should have been less competitive.

The second set proceeded with greater ease for the Panthers. Gilio served three consecutive aces to help Oswego build a 7-1 lead, which forced a Glenbard East timeout. The Panthers extended their advantage to 12-2 and later reached 20-7. Herrick said the team anticipated Glenbard East would push back harder, so they focused on staying consistent. Oswego won the final five rallies to secure the match. Keira Jansons recorded the match-winning block.

Supporting cast members also contributed to the win. Senior Elaina Massie recorded 10 assists, while junior Lily Roller added seven. Libero Amelia Mosley finished with six digs and an ace. The Panthers will now prepare for their matchup against Glenbard West, who entered the sectional with a 30-6 record.
