Approximately 11 percent of Illinois registered voters have already submitted ballots for the November 3 midterm election, according to data from NBC News.
The network's election tracker, updated on Wednesday, recorded 965,964 mail-in and early in-person ballots. A separate metric for mail ballots requested reached 1,138,809.
TargetSmart models estimate that 62 percent of these early voters are Democrats, 31 percent are Republicans, and 7 percent are other voters. These figures are modeled estimates rather than official state party registration counts, and they do not indicate specific candidate choices.
In Will County, 38,345 residents voted via early voting and mail-ballot drop boxes as of Tuesday, according to clerk's office figures. This total included 29,921 early in-person voters and 8,424 ballots returned through drop boxes. The clerk's office led early-voting locations with 4,055 voters by Monday afternoon, followed by the Naperville Public Library's 95th Street location and the Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook.
Early voting continues through Monday, November 2, though schedules vary by location. Election authorities must receive mailed requests for vote-by-mail ballots by Thursday. Completed mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received within 14 days afterward. Voters may also return ballots via designated drop boxes according to local authority hours.
Residents who missed regular registration deadlines may use grace-period registration, which requires two forms of identification, one showing a current address. Voters must cast their ballots at the time of registration. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.
