A man arrived at Stroger Hospital in critical condition after being stabbed on a CTA Blue Line platform in West Town on Wednesday night.

Police report the incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. The victim, whose age was not released, engaged in a verbal dispute with another man. The confrontation escalated into a physical fight, and the suspect struck the victim with a sharp object. The attack caused deep cuts to the victim's neck and back.

Officers responding to the scene detained the suspect. Charges are pending as Area Five detectives continue their investigation. Police have not yet determined the specific topic of the argument that triggered the violence.

The stabbing occurred during a period of intensified safety measures for the transit system. The CTA launched its Safe Ride Specialist program last week. This initiative places trained crisis and violence intervention teams across the network. Earlier this year, Cook County sheriff's deputies began patrolling the tracks. The City Council is also expected to vote on renewing the Chicago Police Department's transit safety contract.

Official data indicates a decline in transit crime. Overall crimes on the CTA are down approximately 28 percent this year.
