Stephen Curry scored a season-high 44 points as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 119-114 on Wednesday night. The victory marks Golden State's second consecutive win after an 0-3 start to the season. Meanwhile, Minnesota has lost two straight games following a 3-0 start.
The game served as the first test for the Timberwolves without injured guard Anthony Edwards. Minnesota announced on Tuesday that Edwards would miss an extended period following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. He averaged 33.3 points during the team's first four games this season.
Curry shot 11 of 27 from the field, including six three-pointers, and made all 16 free throw attempts. He also recorded eight rebounds and six assists. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg added 26 points for Golden State.
The Timberwolves trailed by 24 points at one point before mounting a fourth-quarter comeback. Jonathan Kuminga led Minnesota with 20 points against his former team. He was drafted by Golden State in 2021, traded to Atlanta last season, and signed with Minnesota as a free agent in September.
Jaden McDaniels and Terrence Shannon Jr. each scored 19 points. With the score 116-112 in the final minute, McDaniels missed two deep shots that could have brought Minnesota within one possession. Guard Lamelo Ball struggled off the bench, finishing with eight points on 3-of-11 shooting.
Golden State will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night. The Timberwolves will also play the Los Angeles Clippers at home on Friday.
