The Green Bay Packers host the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night at Lambeau Field, with kickoff set for 8:20 p.m. ET. The game streams on Amazon Prime. DraftKings Sportsbook lists Green Bay as three-point favorites with an over/under of 47.5.
Both teams are coming off losses in Week 7. The Packers fell to the Detroit Lions in a game they had opportunities to win, ending a three-game winning streak. Green Bay had previously rebounded from a lopsided Week 3 Thursday night loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The Panthers were routed 43-13 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, falling behind 17-0 early. Carolina still holds a .500 record after beating the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6.
Carolina's offense produced its weakest showing of the season against Tampa Bay. The Panthers gained 266 yards, picked up 15 first downs, scored 13 points and turned the ball over four times. In their prior five games, the Panthers had gained at least 340 yards each week and scored 25 or more points four times. Quarterback Bryce Young completed 14 of 27 passes for 163 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, and he fumbled once. He has completed under 52 percent of his passes in back-to-back games.
Green Bay's pass defense ranks eighth in net passing yards allowed per attempt, and no opponent has thrown for more than 296 net yards against the Packers this season. The unit has allowed nine touchdown passes against nine interceptions. Linebacker Micah Parsons remains sidelined, and the Packers have generated below-average pressure as a result. Cornerbacks Keisean Nixon and Brandon Cisse have started on the outside, Javon Bullard has played slot, and the safeties have provided help over the middle. Panthers starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are on injured reserve, and Akayleb Evans is out for Thursday. Carolina elevated Marco Wilson from the practice squad.
Green Bay's running game has produced 2.9 yards per carry, the lowest figure in the NFL. Josh Jacobs returned to the lineup last week and carried 11 times for 36 yards, while the team totaled 60 rushing yards against Detroit. Carolina has allowed 5.2 yards per carry, also the league's worst mark, after giving up 258 rushing yards to Tampa Bay last week. The Panthers had allowed 81 rushing yards combined in their previous two games. Chuba Hubbard averages 4.8 yards per carry as the Panthers' lead back while Jonathon Brooks is out, and right tackle Taylor Moton is unavailable for this game.
Panthers edge rusher Jaelan Phillips is also out, which affects Carolina's pass rush. Packers quarterback Jordan Love has completed 59.8 percent of his passes at 7.4 yards per attempt, and Tru Media credits Green Bay with 21 drops this season. Love averages 9.1 yards per throw, fourth-highest in the NFL, and produces gains of 16 or more yards at the third-highest rate among 33 qualified quarterbacks. Christian Watson and Matthew Golden are available to work downfield against Carolina's depleted cornerback group. Panthers offensive production dropped to 13 points last week after scoring 25 or more in four of their first five games.
