Milwaukee Brewers bullpen coach Charlie Greene is bringing a custom protective cup to the World Series in St. Petersburg, Florida. The equipment features the logos and jersey numbers for both the Brewers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, linking his current role with his son's professional football career.
The cup was designed by Diamond MMA. It displays Greene's number 88 and the Brewers logo on the upper portion. The lower portion features the Buccaneers logo and the number 85, which is the jersey number of his son, Garrett Greene. Garrett is a wide receiver on the Buccaneers' practice squad.
Greene has served in the Brewers organization for 22 years. He described the cup as a standard part of his uniform that he wears regularly. He noted that the arrangement of the numbers reflects the family dynamic, with his number positioned above his son's.
Garrett Greene is currently attempting to move from the practice squad to the active roster. The younger Greene transitioned from playing quarterback to wide receiver during his professional career. His father stated that the conversion process is difficult at the professional level, but he has performed well in the new position.
Charlie Greene said his son enjoys his time with the Buccaneers team. He described the locker room environment as positive and noted that Garrett is comfortable with his teammates. The coach remains focused on the Brewers' postseason run while monitoring his son's progress in Tampa Bay.
Garrett has traveled to Milwaukee to watch his father's team play when his schedule permitted. Charlie Greene stated that his son has only known the Brewers as a professional franchise due to his own long tenure with the club. The dual-team gear serves as a physical representation of both professional paths the family is pursuing.
The World Series is currently underway in St. Petersburg. Greene is preparing for his role in the bullpen for the Milwaukee team. The custom cup remains in the clubhouse as part of his standard equipment for the event.
