Eight candidates will have their ballot positions decided by a random draw at noon on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026. The lottery will take place in Council Chambers at the Naperville Municipal Center, located at 400 S. Eagle Street. This process is mandated by the State of Illinois to establish the order of names for the upcoming 2027 Consolidated General Election, which is scheduled for April 6, 2027.

The lottery applies specifically to candidates who filed their petitions during the overlapping periods at the start and end of the filing window. Petitions received at 8 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2026, will be entered into one draw to determine the top position on the ballot. A second draw will determine the bottom position for petitions submitted between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Oct. 26, 2026. Any petitions filed between 8 a.m. on Oct. 19 and 4 p.m. on Oct. 26 will appear in the exact sequence in which the City Clerk's office received them.

The filing period for these City Council races concluded on Oct. 26, 2026. Illinois law requires local election authorities to hold such a lottery within nine days of the final filing date. The event is open to the public, though candidates are not required to attend. The eight individuals entering the race include incumbent Council members Josh McBroom, Nate Wilson, and Supna Jain. The remaining candidates are Staci Boyer, Kristine Gericke, Laurie Donahue, Mark Willensky, and Michael Christin.

This council race is distinct from the mayoral contest, where Mayor Scott Wehrli and Councilman Benny White are the only candidates on the ballot. The four available City Council seats are for four-year terms. Residents seeking details on the election process can contact the City Clerk's Office at (630) 305-5300 or via email at NapervilleClerks@naperville.il.us. The city's official website, www.naperville.il.us, also lists further election information.

Early voting for the General Midterm Election is currently underway at the Naperville Municipal Center. This mid-term election will occur on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. Voters should note that the Nov. 2 lottery concerns the 2027 council ballot order, while the Nov. 3 date refers to the general mid-term voting period. The distinction between these two events and their respective timelines is key for residents following local election news.
